If Xi Jinping visits the United States between market creation and December 31, 2026, 11:59 PM ET, this market will resolve to "Yes". Otherwise, this market will resolve to "No". For the purpose of this market, a "visit" is defined as Xi Jinping physically entering the terrestrial or maritime territory of the United States. Whether or not Xi Jinping enters US airspace during the timeframe of this market will have no bearing on a positive resolution. The primary resolution source for this information will be official information from the US or China, however a consensus of credible reporting will also be used.

On April 2, Trump announced that he would escalate the conflict with Iran within the next two to three weeks. I seriously doubt he will still be able to visit China on the scheduled date of May 14. After all, if the war is not over by then—or if it does not proceed as expected—Trump will lack leverage in negotiations with Chinese leaders. This would make the art of the deal difficult and put him at a disadvantage in the talks.

Following his visit to China, Trump will invite Xi Jinping to visit the US. Trump's current planned visit to China is in May. Historically, the shortest interval between visits by the top leaders of China and the US is seven months, making a state visit by Xi Jinping to the US before the end of 2026 unlikely. The UN General Assembly in September. Xi Jinping is unlikely to attend personally unless he has a major agenda item to address. The G20 Summit to be held in the US in December. Xi Jinping may attend, but given the deteriorating Sino-Japanese relations, he may consider avoiding a joint appearance with Sanae Takaichi and instead send Premier Li Qiang or a lower-ranking official as his representative.
